This qualification is for those who are looking for the highest level course in First Aid for Mental Health.

It builds on the Level 2 award and gives delegates a detailed understanding of mental health conditions; what first aid for metal health is; how to provide advice and start a conversation with someone; how to put in place a first aid action plan for mental health; and how to promote and implement a positive mental health culture in the work place.

The successful delegate will leave with an Ofqual regulated FAA Level 3 in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF).

Aim of The Course

Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting a suspected mental health condition
Know how to recognise and manage stress
Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health
Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place
Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
Understand a range of mental health disorders and the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers

Define mental health
Indicate understanding of the stigma surrounding mental health
Identify factors that can affect a person’s mental health
Understand the role of a First Aider for mental health
Outline the advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition
Demonstrate the application of the first aid action plan for mental health
State key factors in providing a positive mental health culture in the workplace
Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
Describe the characteristics, including signs and/or symptoms, of various mental health conditions
Describe the support & therapy provided by professional healthcare providers for the a variety of mental health conditions

DAY 1 OF This course will examine the following topics:

DAY 2 OF This course will examine the following topics:

Post-traumatic stress disorder

Psychosis
Schizophrenia

The Mental Health First Aid Course runs for 2 days, both days 09:00 – 17:00.

They do not have to be 2 consecutive days.

Assessment Process for this course

There is a written test involving multiple choice questions and written answers.

CERTIFICATION OPTIONS

Learners will be certificated with the Ofqual regulated FAA Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid For Mental Health (RQF).

What is the difference between the different first aid for mental health courses?

The Level 1 course - Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health - is an entry level qualification giving delegates a basic understanding of common mental health conditions and how to start a conversation with someone about their mental health. It will also help them to signpost help for someone who is suspected of having a mental health condition.
The Level 2 course - First Aid for Mental Health - is comprehensive training for individuals, businesses and institutions who wish to have a designated Mental Health First Aider qualification. It builds on the level 1 course by going into mental health conditions in more detail, giving the learner the skills to implement a first aid action plan and a good understanding of how to promote and build a positive mental health culture and ethos in the work place.
The Level 2 course - Youth First Aid for Mental Health - provides comprehensive train for individuals and institutions within the education sector. It looks specifically at what youth mental health first aid is; the mental health conditions young people can suffer from; and gives the learner the skills to implement a first aid action plan.
The Level 3 course - Supervising First Aid for Mental Health - is our most in depth qualification. It would be suited to those who are looking to oversee a group of Mental Health First Aiders within a larger organisation. It provides everything the Level 2 course does but extends knowledge to a deeper understanding of a much wider range of mental health conditions such as Psychosis, Schizophrenia and PTSD.
