More About This Course

 

The course is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level and require full Paediatric First Aid Training.

First Aid At Work is a 2-day course that can be certificated with Aiker Training or certificated with the Ofqual regulated FAA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF). This course complies with EYFS and OFSTED requirements.

Being able to provide quick, decisive and effective first aid to children and infants in an emergency is a critical skill for anyone with responsibility for children.

Legislation from the Department of Education requires all newly qualified level two and three childcarers to have either an emergency paediatric first aid or full paediatric first-aid certificate.

Our Paediatric First Aid qualifications are Early Years Foundation Stage and OFSTED approved. So you can be confident that the quality of training and first aiders in your organisation are of the standard you need.

Aim of The Course
  • To promote the health and well-being of children and infants within childcare and education settings.
  • To provide learners will the ability to administer first aid to children and infants that have been injured or become unwell.
  • To provide learners with CPR and AED skills appropriate to infants and children.
Objectives of The Course
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.
  • Be able to assess an emergency safely.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking.
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding and minor injuries, bites and stings.
Day 1
  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider
  • Primary survey
  • Secondary assessment
  • Resuscitation and defibrillation
  • Seizures
  • Choking
  • Wounds, bleeding, and shock
  • Bites and Stings
Day 2
  • Bones, joints, and muscle injuries
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Foreign body and eye injuries
  • Chronic medical conditions and illnesses
  • Effects of heat and cold
  • Electric shock incidents
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis

This course is 2 days and can be spread over 3 weeks.

Assessment Process for this course

Learners will be assessed through observation of set practical skills and written test at the end of the course.

Certification Options

There are two options for certification:
The learner can be certificated with an Aiker Training certificate OR
The learner can be certificated with the Ofqual regulated FAA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) – Additional fees apply.
