More About This Course

 

For those with a professional interest in the health, safety and wellbeing of children and infants, this course covers relevant basic first aid and CPR. As a short course, it does not fulfil the requirements for Paediatric First Aid as set by EYFS and OFSTED.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid is a full-day first aid course that can be certificated with Aiker Training or certificated with the Ofqual regulated FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF).

Being able to provide quick, decisive and effective first aid to children and infants in an emergency is a critical skill for anyone with responsibility for children.

From completing this course learners could progress by completing unit 2 and being awarded the full 2-day Award in Paediatric First Aid.

Aim of The Course
  • To promote health and well-being of children and infants.
  • To provide learners will the ability to administer first aid to children and infants that have been injured or become unwell.
  • To save lives through quality CPR and AED resuscitation skills.
Objectives of The Course
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking.
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding and minor injuries, bites and stings.
This course will examine the following topics:
  • Roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.
  • Primary survey on an infant and a child and place an infant and a child in the recovery position.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to an unresponsive infant and an unresponsive child who is not breathing normally.
  • Minor injuries, bites and stings.
  • Hypovolaemic shock.
 

This course is 1 day.

Assessment Process for this course

Learners will be assessed through observation of set practical skills.

Certification Options

There are two options for certification:
The learner can be certificated with an Aiker Training certificate OR
The learner can be certificated with the Ofqual regulated FAA Level 3 Award in Paediatric Emergency First Aid (RQF) – Additional fees apply.
